Cindy Shephard launched Pocket WOC™ as a capstone project for her Masters in Nursing Degree from Drexel University. Cindy began her nursing career at the regional burn center at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. After earning her certification in wound, ostomy and continence nursing through the WOCNB, she began practicing at the outpatient wound and ostomy clinic. She is also an active member of the Baltimore Affiliate of the Wound, Ostomy, and Continence Nurses Society.
Members of the Baltimore Ostomy Association, a chapter of the UOAA, provided some of the suggestions for content here, and other topics are based on research into the typical questions that many new ostomates have.
There are lots of things to explore on PocketWOC. On the lower menu, “Procedures,” “Practical Skills,” “Common Concerns,” and “Site Features” offer lots of “need-to-know” information about living with your ostomy. Pocket WOC’s online community of ostomates and friends is on Facebook. You can share your thoughts, join in a conversation, start a group, or just find out how other members have adjusted to life with an ostomy. We’re so glad you’re here!
